The Hotshock AN490 is an electric fence energizer from the professional series by Horizont. It is a very powerful electric fence energizer that operates on both 12V and 230V; this provides a combination of flexibility and reliability in the event of a power outage. Ideal for fences up to a maximum of 20km; specially developed for less sensitive animals such as sheep, wolves, poultry and for wildlife management.

The Hotshock AN490 features 2 different output voltage connections; you can choose the maximum power for large plots, but it can also be switched to lower voltage (up to 1J) for smaller plots or more sensitive animals.

ECO power

The unit is equipped with a fully automatic power-saving circuit: energy consumption is adjusted to the condition of the fence. In short, if the fence is properly installed and insulated, energy consumption will be minimal.

6-step LED

Easily check the voltage level with the 6-step LED lights on the unit. With each impulse, the LED lights on the front illuminate; the more LED lights that illuminate, the higher the voltage. This allows you to easily monitor the activity and output voltage of the unit.

Battery test

The color in which this light illuminates indicates the battery capacity at 3 levels:

• Green: 40–100%
• Red/green: 20–40%
• Red: 0–20%

The unit features a deep discharge protection for the 12V battery.

Impulse Control

As an additional safeguard, this LED lights up clearly RED when the voltage level on the fence drops below the threshold value, and GREEN when it is at the minimum desired level.

Earthing

A good earth connection is essential for an optimally functioning electric fence. An earth stake should preferably carry no voltage. For the Hotshock AN490 we recommend a minimum of 3 earth stakes of 150cm (art. 015017).

Want to easily measure the quality of the earthing? Drive a metal stake into the ground approximately 50–100 metres from the unit and place it against the wire, cord or tape to create a short circuit. During this measurement there should be no voltage on the wire. A maximum of 1 or 2 of the 6 LED lights on the unit should be on. If more lights are on, additional earth stakes need to be driven in.
